JEDDAH: The Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS) organized a free medical camp and discussion on health for women at the Pakistani Consulate recently.

Doctors and specialists diagnosed patients and distributed free medicines to needy patients, and arranged ultrasound and ECG tests.

A panel of four lady doctors discussed and explained the importance of early screening and prevention; how to avoid obesity and hypertension, treatment with Tibb-e-Nabavi and dental health during pregnancy.

The program started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Fouzia Akbar Khan, in charge of the women’s wing of PWS, welcomed Dr. Sonia Shehryar, wife of Pakistan Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan, and health professionals, including Dr. Rabia Khatoon, Dr. Farah Shams and Dr. Farhana Siddiqui.

Dr. Khatoon stressed the need for early screening for diagnosis and effective treatment. She explained that early screening for breast cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and blood pressure are very important as it can help prevent major diseases. “Prevention is better than cure,” she added.
