RIYADH: The Municipal Council of Riyadh recently met together to review a number of issues related to water drainage projects in the Saudi capital, according to a report.

The meeting was chaired by Engineer Tarek bin Osman Al-Kasabi, Municipal Council president, and included a presentation of all relevant studies and designs for new projects, as well as a review of overall management and maintenance schedules in the city.

The board members emphasized the need to ensure sufficient capabilities in the city for averting flash floods, while also discussing the maintenance of equipment that pumps flood water away from city areas when portions of the city do become flooded during heavy rains.

The presentation at the meeting looked at water drainage projects in general, as well as water pools, site torrents, rain events and the efforts of the city in the face of flash floods throughout its flood-prone districts.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Omari, the Municipal Council deputy president, also offered a summary of the latest developments concerning the GCC Manual's Second Mandate (1432-1436).

Additionally, the municipal board reviewed the issues raised by some members of the council, which the Riyadh Municipality will discuss before the end of the second term of the municipal council of the city.
