JEDDAH: The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the armed attack near Saihat on Friday and said that the terrorist attacker is Shujaa Al-Dossari.

Security forces said that the 20-year-old man was wanted by authorities after his family reported him to police and said that he had been missing for sometime and harboring extreme thoughts. Security sources didn’t reveal the identity of the perpetrator, saying they were awaiting DNA tests.

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said on Saturday that a man carrying a machine gun was spotted Friday evening in Al-Kawthar neighborhood in Saihat. “The man started shooting randomly at passers-by around the mosque when a security patrol at the site exchanged fire with the shooter and killed him,” he said.

The shooter killed five bystanders, including a woman, and wounded nine others.

Sources identified one of the dead as Buthaina Al-Abbad, a 22-year-old mother of one and a fifth year student at the medical faculty at Dammam University.

The shooter’s last statement on Twitter read: “It’s good to die on a Friday at a place that is purified by a martyr’s blood.”

Buthaina was killed on the way to a house where there was a live broadcast of Sheikh Khuwailidi on Ashoura.

Colleagues describe her as social who used to help everybody without discrimination. She worked hard to help others in their studies and medical projects, said one of her students. “Donning the white apron was her dream.”

Friends and loved ones created a hashtag carrying Buthaina’s name where her friends, teachers and relatives paid their condolences and remembered her good deeds.

Abdul Sattar Abu Saleh was also a victim of the attack. His last statement on Twitter read: “We are brothers, Sunnahs and Shiites. A homeland we don’t protect is a homeland we don’t deserve to live in.”

The victims also included Ayman Al-Ajami, a man in his 20s who loved volunteer work and was active in social work.

One of his friends said that Ayman, the eldest of his brothers, comes from a humble family. He added that he was loyal and devoted to volunteer work.

“His father welcomed him at the airport after he came back from Haj,” he told Arab News.

Abdullah Al-Jasem and Ali Al-Saleem were also killed in the attack.
