RIYADH: Four citizens have been arrested in two murder cases, one of which was a road rage. One of the suspects resisted arrest and even opened fire on the police, but no one was injured.

According to the Riyadh police, a clinic informed them that it received a Saudi youth with injuries from gun shots on Monday. The police immediately rushed to the clinic in the Aziziyah district, but he had already succumbed to his injuries.

“The police formed a special team to track the killer and zeroed in on him on Tuesday. The suspect resisted the arrest and fired on the squad,” Col. Fawaz bin Jameel Al-Maiman, the spokesman of Riyadh police, said. “Luckily, none of the policemen were injured. The criminal was hiding in a house in the same district.”

The gun used in the murder of the youth has been seized, he said, adding that the suspect was handed over to the Bureau of Investigations and Public Prosecution in Riyadh.

In the other incident, the operations room of the security patrols received information that three Saudis in a four-wheeler assaulted an Egyptian expatriate in Al-Amal district south of Riyadh, following a traffic dispute.

Al-Maiman said that when the three Saudis tried to escape from the scene, the Egyptian expatriate tried to stop them by standing in front of their car. However, they ran over him and fled the scene. He was rushed to the Al-Iman hospital where he died, he said.

Al-Maiman said the suspects were given a chase and the security patrols found their jeep. The driver was arrested and in a short time, his two accomplices were also nabbed.

He said all the three were handed over to BIPP.
