RIYADH: Six winners — five authors and a researcher from scientific and educational institutions — have been announced as winners in the King Abdul Aziz Book Award this year.

The committee for the King Abdulaziz Book Award said the works of the winners dealt with Saudi society, history of the Arabian Peninsula and culture.

The winners are Mohammed bin Abi Bakr Shalli from Makkah, Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Aboudi, Ibrahim bin Ali Al-Dugairi (from Qassim University), Ali Al-Zahrani (Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage), Saleh Al-Jadaani (history lecturer at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University), and Mashaah Al-Otaibi (history department at University of Sattam bin Abdul Aziz).

Shalli’s winning book was titled “Gems of Wisdom in the 11th Century.” Al-Aboudi was awarded for his work “Dictionary on the Face of Earth, Mountains, Wells and Valleys in Folklore.” Al-Dugairi won the award for his books related to Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, Al-Zahrani won for his studies on an archaeological site in the Eastern Province estimated to be 4 square kilometers, while Al-Jadaani’s book deals with the travels of writers on their way to Makkah and the rest of the territories of the Arabian Peninsula.

Al-Otaibi’s book deals with the method of Caliph Omar bin Al-Khattab in dealing with factors affecting internal security and facing family problems.

The panel, which screened the entries, included Abdulrahman bin Sulaiman Al-Muzaini of the library and information section and Rashid bin Saad Al-Qahtani of the department of history, respectively, of the Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University.

The General Secretariat of the King Abdulaziz Book Award congratulated the winners.

The King Abdul Aziz Foundation was the sponsor.
