JEDDAH: A determined soldier at the southern border saved his colleague from a mine that could have killed him.

The soldier acted wisely when he stepped on the mine with his foot, cutting his colleague’s military boot. He kept pressing on the mine with his hands until his colleague safely left. The soldier then place a heavy stone on the mine, and then backed away from the stone without injury.

Soldier Mamdouh bin Eid Al-Anzi, deployed among ground troops stationed at Jizan, was on the way with his colleagues to rescue and aid another fellow wounded soldier.

After they provided aid to the wounded colleague, Al-Anzi came back to pick up some of the belongings he had left at the site, and on the way he stepped on a mine. He stood still fearing that the mine would explode.

The soldier called for help and soldier Majid Al-Azizi Al-Muteiri came and verified the existence of the mine. Engineers couldn’t arrive at the site for more than an hour and Al-Anzi began to tire from standing.

Al-Muteiri, however, refused to leave and said that either they live together or they all die. He then started to rescue his friend.

Al-Muteiri cut the boot releasing Al-Anzi’s leg and put pressure on the mine with his hands until his other colleagues brought a large stone to place on it.
