JEDDAH: A high school student was killed and his younger sister seriously injured when he lost control over the car he was driving and hit an electricity pole in Qia area of Taif on Wednesday morning.

The vehicle reportedly veered off as a result of accumulation of rainwater on the road and poor visibility due to fog.

Shadi bin Abed Al-Harthi, the official spokesman for the Red Crescent in Taif, confirmed that the boy died on the spot, while his sister was taken to the King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital in Taif by citizens before the Red Crescent emergency squad arrived at the scene.

A large number of parents in Taif expressed their resentment at the education officials’ insistence on the continuation of school on Wednesday despite the inclement weather, saying that the accident was avoidable.
