RIYADH: The Specialised Criminal Court in Riyadh has convicted a Sudanese resident of adopting Takfiri or deviant thought, which violates the Qur’an and Sunnah and expresses sympathy with Daesh.

The court proved that the man had a diary in which he expressed his support for the extremist system and wrote about traveling to Syria to join the fighting there.

The court issued a preliminary ruling to imprison him for nine years, commencing from the day of his arrest. Four years of the sentence are owing to the punishments stipulated in the first paragraph of Royal Decree number A/44, while one year owes to Article six of the Anti-Information Crime Law.

The rest of the years were issued in accordance with other varied charges against him. The ruling included the confiscation of his computer according to Article 13 of the Anti-Information Crime Law, and mandates his deportation from the county following the culmination of his prison service.

In another case, the Criminal Court in Riyadh convicted a citizen for writing political analyses contrary to government positions, and for managing a centre that specializes in Islamic studies to mobilize public opinion and plant suspicions about the integrity of the judiciary. The man was also accused of encouraging people in eastern Saudi Arabia to demonstrate in front of the U.S. Consulate in Tehran.
