A hot chase by security patrol of a motorcycle ended in an accident and injuries to three Saudi youths riding the bike, with one of them slipping into coma.

The Al-Salama Police Department in North Jeddah are investigating what prompted the patrol to chase the young men along the Corniche on Monday.

The youths are being treated at the King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital.

The spokesman of the Makkah Police, Col. Atti Al-Qurshi, said further information on the reason for the chase will be released later.

According to one of the motorcycle riders, Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, the police began to chase them unexpectedly. He said they did not violate any traffic rules and were shocked to see the cops surrounding them from all the sides.

He said one of the patrols deliberately rammed the motorcycle with their vehicle, following which the bike hit a tree along the road.

“My friend, Shaker Al-Harthy, lost consciousness and entered into a coma, while the two security patrols fled. I received serious injuries in my left foot. The other friend on the motorcycle, Amro, received bruises all over his body,” said Mohammed.

He alleged that the Saudi Red Crescent arrived late at the scene. “The private hospital where we were taken refused to admit us under medical insurance because of the report that they were fleeing from security patrols.”

They had to be transferred by private car to another private hospital, he added, noting that treatment will cost 10 thousand riyals at their own expense.

Medical reports reveal that Shaker, who was riding the motorcycle, has suffered internal bleeding due to head injury, as well as a broken pelvis and right thigh. He called on authorities to look into the accident and reveal the causes that led to their chase by security patrol suddenly, causing them serious injuries.

“Shaker is the only head of his family after the death of his father, and we ask the Emir of Makkah to help him and his family,” said Mohammed.
