RIYADH: A highly unimaginative attempt to smuggle a foreign woman into the Kingdom through the King Fahd Causeway has been foiled by the Customs department.

The woman was concealed under a pile of clothes on the back seat of the car that came from Bahrain early in the morning.

The nationalities of the woman and the driver and the motive of the crime were yet to be ascertained.

“During routine inspection, our alert officer found the woman sitting on the mat and hidden under a pile of clothes,” Daifallah Al-Otaibi, director of Customs at the King Fahd Causeway, said, adding: “The ruse obviously did not work.”

He said that this was the second such attempt in less than two months. “Attempt to drive foreigners into Saudi Arabia through the 25-km causeway is not new.”

Al-Otaibi warned those attempting to smuggle people, drugs or alcohol should think twice before doing it because the alert Customs officers won’t let them succeed.
