RIYADH: The Criminal Court here on Monday convicted two Saudi men for their involvement in Syria’s ongoing war and joining the Daesh terrorist group adopting deviant ideology and getting involved in other serious crimes.

Another citizen for trying to spread hatred against the country’s leadership and indulging in drug addiction.

Spelling out the verdict, the report said in the first decision, a Saudi was found guilty for traveling to the war zone in Syria and joining Daesh at their camp where he underwent combat training. He also took part in war under the group banner without permission from a guardian and surrendering his passport to a member of the terror organization.

The court sentenced him to eight years from the date of arrest and imposed a fine of SR3,000. He will not be allowed to travel for the same period.

Another Saudi national was convicted for traveling to Syria and taking part in the war and pledging allegiance to a Daesh leader. He also acted as a coordinator for the exit of young people to the conflict zone.

However, the accused did not accept the deviant ideology of the group which prompted him to return to the Kingdom. As such, the court jailed him for five years with a travel ban for the same period.

Another citizen, a drug addict, was found guilty for and inciting others, through social media, to disobey the leadership of the country and offer allegiance to others instead. He was also found guilty of verbal abuse and offenses against the Saudi people and challenging the grand mufti of the country.

The court sentenced him to four years and two years on the basis of Article (6) of the Anti e-Crime Act and the closure of his electronic site based on Article 13 of the Anti e-Crime Act.

He will also be punished with 80 lashes for using narcotics and banned from travel for the similar period of imprisonment based on Article (6) of travel documents code.
