Vehicles parked outside a South Asian school have been vandalized by students after taking examinations.

Some parents who parked their vehicles near the Indian International School in Riyadh in Rabwa found the side mirrors of their vehicles smashed by students who came out of the examination halls earlier than the scheduled time.

One parent told Arab News that he went inside the school around 11 a.m. and when he returned to his car about half-an-hour later, he found both mirrors had been broken by students.

“It happened last Thursday and I was not the only victim of vandalism. There were four others whose cars’ side mirrors were broken,” he said. He said that he, along with others, had complained to the principal but so far no action had been taken to stop the students who have been breaking mirrors every day.

Subsequently, Arab News learned that Saudis living near the school have also complained of similar incidents near their houses.

Another parent complained that the problem was due to a lack of control by the school. “The authorities should take action to remedy the situation since it will give a bad name to the institution which has previously been respected in the community.”

Parents apparently take their children to the school, drop them and the vandalism then occurs before the students enter the school premises. About 5,000 students are enrolled in the school.

In answer to the complaints, Principal Shauket Parvez told Arab News that the school administration had taken immediate action to prevent such incidents. “We are using special Saudi security guards outside the school compound to stop these actions,” the principal said, pointing out that even teachers were on duty at the gates when students left the school after class.

The principal gave assurances that adequate measures had been taken to prevent the acts of vandalism.
