RIYADH: Wastewater in Faisaliah district has crippled work in an industrial area in the capital, which is home to hundreds of warehouses.

It is alleged that wastewater is discharged from the factories which do not have the proper drainage facilities.

“The water which drained from some of the glass factories in the area has flooded roads in the industrial area which are frequented by hundreds of cars daily,” Seyed Hamid Mowlana who works in one of the warehouses told Arab News on Monday.

The predicted rains have brought happiness for everyone but not for people in this area, he said, pointing out that rain will cause havoc in these areas with additional water becoming stagnant in the quarter.

The owners of these warehouses have already complained to the municipality which is turning a deaf ear to the problem. “People cannot walk from one store to another in the area. How can we do businesses with this environment?” he asked.

Unless the concerned authorities take a prompt action before the rains start, he said, there will be chaos in the area and operations in the industrial area will come to a standstill.
