JEDDAH: The criminal court here has sentenced a Saudi woman to seven months in jail and 20 lashes for terrorizing her stepsister by pouring acid in front of her house, resulting in her son’s feet being burned.

The defendant, who is in her thirties, has had a yearlong feud with her stepsister over their late father’s estate. The court found that her actions were considered criminal offenses, according to a report in a local publication on Monday.

A judicial source said the stepsister had filed a complaint against the defendant and that this was not the first time that the accused had poured acid in front of her house.

The accused, during questioning by the state prosecutor, claimed that she had suffered over the years because their late father had favored her stepsister. She claimed the stepsister had convinced their father to register an apartment in her name before he died.

When she demanded that the property be shared equally, her stepsister threw her out of her house, the accused claimed.
