JEDDAH: Al-Tayyer United Contracting Co. became only the second team to achieve a rare perfect grand slam when it swept the team and individual honors on maximum possible total of 30 points during the 16th session in the OFBC Friday Afternoon League Season 6 at the Iceland Bowling Center here.
Given the chance to shine against lowly SGH Bowling Group, Al-Tayyer outdid itself as it came away with a 20-0 shutout win on total pinfalls of 2,078-1,832 and rank points of 10-4.
Al-Tayyer ended the session on 30 points to easily win Team of the Week honors for only the second time but it was one to remember thanks to Carmen Duma and team captain Joel Nidoy who romped off with the ladies’ and men’s Bowler of the Week awards to seal Tayyer’s perfect grand slam.
It was the league’s second perfect grand slam with Expendabowls notching it first on the 13th week although two other teams had recorded perfect 30s namely Velocity Strikers on the sixth week and RTJ Transient House on the first two sessions in the four-man team league event.
Shadow Bowlers followed their Team of the Week award-winning peformance with a solid display that gave them the week’ second-best of 25 points after beating Velocity Strikers 16-4 on total pinfalls of 2,012-1,919 and rank points of 9-6.
Toshi defended the No. 1 spot a week after claiming it from Nilobabes, beating RTJ Transient House 16-4 (1,947-1,975 8-7) and finishing on 24 points.
Nilobabes, however, made the race for No. 1 too close to call after pooling 25 points following their 20-0 blanking of Arci-5 on total pinfalls of 1,912-1,418 and rank points of 5-1.
In the other match, The Expendebowls brought down Youngsters 12-8 (1,773-1,779 2-3).
Duma and Nidoy shot 523 and 556 respectively on the way to winning their first individual awards while at the helm of a Tayyer charge that had Alex Duma hitting 540 and Jojo Esperanzate contributing 459.
The surprising Shadow Bowlers drew solid scores of 537 and 516 from Edwin Agustin and Hadi Pacheco as well as 487 from Hercie Bosito and 472 from Jhun Ejanda.
Toshi skipper Ryan Liwagon led from the front, compiling 542 that went with the 493 by Vivian Sacramed, 472 by Cesar Sacramed and 351 by Rico Bulalayao.
For Nilobabes, the Patayans delivered with mother-daughter Susan and Sharmaine on 501 and 498 and the patriarch Nap on 470. Epoy Santos rounded out the Nilobabes scoring on 443.
