TAMPA, Florida: Tyler Johnson is staying with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The free-agent forward signed a new seven-year, $35 million deal to remain with the Lightning, General Manager Steve Yzerman announced Monday.
The 26-year-old Johnson had 19 goals and 26 assists in 66 games last season. He was tied for third on the Lightning in goals and power-play goals (six), and fifth with 45 points.
Overall, Johnson has totaled 89 goals, 122 assists and 102 penalty minutes in 308 career games over five seasons, all with Tampa Bay. He also has 21 goals and 21 assists in 47 career playoff games.
The Lightning missed the playoffs last season after reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2015 and the Eastern Conference finals in 2016. Earlier this month, Tampa Bay signed former Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi and four-time Stanley Cup-winning forward Chris Kunitz.
Faksa re-signs with Stars
Czech star Radek Faksa re-signed with the Dallas Stars on Monday, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal worth $6.6 million, the team said.
Faksa, 23, finished with 33 points from 12 goals and 21 assists in 80 games for Dallas last season, his first full year in the National Hockey League.
“We’re thrilled to have Radek locked in for the next three seasons as he is an important part of what we’re building here,” Stars General Manager Jim Nill said in a statement. “He has proven to be a trustworthy, 200-foot player and we fully expect him to continue growing in all areas of his game.”
Faksa was chosen 13th overall by Dallas in the 2012 NHL draft, beginning his career with the franchise’s junior club the Texas Stars.
He played for the Czech Republic at the 2016 World Championships and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild have re-signed right wing Kurtis Gabriel and goalie Steve Michalek to one-year, two-way contracts.
The deals with the restricted free agents were done Monday. Many of the moves by the Wild this summer have been made to bolster organizational depth for in-season call-ups and injury insurance. Both players will get $715,000 in the NHL and $70,000 in the AHL.
Gabriel was a third-round draft pick in 2013. He played 40 games for AHL Iowa last season, with eight goals, two assists and 68 penalty minutes. Gabriel has played in 20 career games for the Wild, four in the playoffs.
Michalek had a 2.63 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in 30 games for Iowa last season. He was a sixth-round draft pick in 2011.
