1) Ranking highest on our to-do list is a tour boat on the lake, to experience a panoramic view of the city landscape on a harbor cruise. After London and New York, Hamburg’s port is the largest in the world and there are many ways to enjoy the harbor other than taking a boat tour. You can stroll along the waterfront; enjoy seafood cuisine at one of the restaurant overlooking the port, and many other activities.
2) Neighboring the harbor, you will find the city’s historical warehouse district and the largest warehouse complex in the world. It is listed as a UNESCO world heritage. In the narrow cobble stone streets you will find over 100 years old warehouses that showcase chocolate, fabrics, spices, carpets and other treasured goods that arrive in Germany by merchants from all over the world.
3) Hamburg has more than 40 theaters, 60 museums and 100 music venues and there is always something new happening, so make sure to check new openings, exhibitions and concerts.
4) Hamburg is listen in the book of Guinness records as the city with 4,500 bridges. Canals in this city are more abundant than in Venice, Amsterdam and London together. For the best views, take a boat tour, because some of the most amazing views can only be seen from canals that have no streets you can walk on.
5) Planten un Bolmen, which is German for plants and flowers, is Hamburg’s most popular public park, built in 1821. In the morning you will enjoy different scenes from beautiful flowerbeds, the Japanese garden, tropical glass houses, among other sites. If you choose to visit the park at night, you will definitely be pleased by the artificial waterfall and the lovely light musical performances at the main basin.
6) Hamburg zoo is one of the oldest zoos in Germany- founded in 1907. The Hagenbecks Tierpark Zoo was the first fenceless zoo to be created; animals are separated from visitors by nature or hidden obstacles, no cages and no wires. You also must see the tropical aquarium and crocodile pool.
7) Those of you who love art, must visit the Kunsthalle Art Museum. The museum has different departments: painting in Hamburg in the 14th century, paintings by Dutch and Flemish artists of the 16th and 17th centuries, French and German paintings of the 19th century and of course, modern art collections by local and international artists.
8) Shopping in Hamburg is an experience in itself, from big department stores like Karstadt and Alsterhaus, to designer shops around Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall.
Walking around and getting lost will give you the opportunity to discover new and interesting boutiques. You will also come across an open air market so make sure you stop for some custom-made leather goods, wooden crafts, local food and spices.
9) The famous Fischmarkt has been a Hamburg institution since 1703 and is open from 5am to 10am on Sundays. Despite the name, the market not only sells fish and seafood, it also offers stalls of fruits, vegetables, baked goods and flowers. It’s like a weekly festival, where locals gather around during the early morning to enjoy live music and Sunday morning breakfast.

How to get there:
