This refers to the article “ New SAFF chief best man to help female athletes” (Jan. 10) by Sabria S. Jawhar. I think Sabria has unnecessarily been criticizing conservatives in her articles. I fail to understand what does she intend to achieve by targeting religious scholars.
The writer has again advocated for a women football team in the country which will compete with international teams. It really transgresses the limit of Islamic teachings. I do not know why Muslim writers are too much influenced by the West and are violating and undermining the Islamic teachings.
We must remember that Islam is a universal religion and its rules and regulations are divine. Why are Muslims reluctant to act upon them rather than giving preferences to the West’s glamorous way of life? It is not only through football or other sports that women progress can be achieved. There are other progressive domains through which women can help in the country’s progress. For example, she can earn an MBBS degree and become a doctor to serve humanity.
Also, she can become a professor and can impart education to the students and there are other fields also which conform to the teachings of Islam. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
