JEDDAH: Mobily is behind efforts to building a brighter future for the company and its customers, said Serkan Okandan, Mobily’s deputy CEO.

His remarks came as Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) announced the commercial launch of a cable venture to connect the Middle East with Europe starting from Fujairah city in the UAE passing through Riyadh and Jordanian capital Amman.

The high-capacity regional cable network FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) agreement involves allies of several telecom companies such as Mobily, UAE Etisalat Group, Zain Jordan Turkcell Super Online, Orange Jordan, and Syria Telecommunication.

As a first phase, operations will start from Fujairah through Riyadh and then Amman.

The length of the regional cable is about 5,000 km that provide high capacities of data reaching 1.2 terabyte/second and from 10 GB duplicates as per Ethernet protocol.

The regional cable shall be extended to Turkey as soon as the political and social status settles down in Syria.

The project guarantees the possibility of reaching all sites along the track of the cable, even in case of the network failure.

Other developmental alternatives are available to extend the FTTH cable from Turkey to Europe through different terminals that already prepared and equipped on the Greek-Bulgarian boarders with Turkey.

Serkan Okandan, Mobily’s deputy CEO, also said that the company is witnessing today the transformation from a telecom service provider to an integrated ICT services provider.

He confirmed that these agreements and international allies will have a great impact to fulfil this target, and that we are delighted to be a member in a group which includes the largest telecommunication companies in the region.

Okandan expressed his gratefulness to all Mobily partners for the great job they offered to turn this agreement into reality.

The original agreement charted out a 7,750km round trip fiber optic cable line comprised of two redundant fiber pairs with initial equipped capacity of 1.2Tbps and design capacity of 6.4Tbps fully redundant routes.
