Mom Protect Me set a new world record by creating the World’s Largest Sock Mosaic on Nov. 17 to mark the fourth annual World Prematurity Day and to raise awareness about the challenges facing premature babies and their families.

With the support of Princess Areeb bint Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Mom Protect Me, launched in 2012, created a mosaic using 16,800 socks in honor of the year-long worldwide campaign, Socks for Life, an initiative of the European Foundation for the Care Of Newborn Infants initiative, which World Prematurity Day joined.

Mom Protect Me organized the event at the Mall of Arabia in Jeddah, where 40 artists created a three by four meters mosaic designed to show the campaign’s logo.

The creation was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for World’s Largest Sock Mosaic and aims to highlight the issues surrounding preterm birth and preterm babies and their families worldwide.

Mom Protect Me is committed to saving the lives of premature babies and educating mothers and health care professionals on the issue.

As part of prematurity awareness campaign Mom Protect Me organized 10 events at leading hospitals, including the National Guard Hospital, Riyadh; and the maternity and children’s hospitals in Makkah, Madinah, Dammam, Al-Ahsa and Azizia; and in King Saud Medical City.

Launched in 2012, World Prematurity Day highlights the issue of premature birth as a very serious health problem. Worldwide, 15 million babies are born preterm and more than a million die as a result. Babies who survive often have lifelong health problems such as cerebral palsy, vision and hearing loss and intellectual disabilities.
