The year 2015 just began and we’ve already had some huge makeup launches and new trends emerging. Last year introduced us to some amazing beauty tricks and looks. However, there are some trends that we can well do without this year. Jeddah’s beauty guru Nilo Haq brings to you a list of beauty trends that need to go in 2015.
1. Excessive contouring
Number one on this list is contouring (Not a surprise I’m sure)! Contouring came into the limelight in 2014, with contouring in excess all over Instagram and social media. Contouring is a great makeup trick, which can be used to shape the face and slim the nose, but it needs to be scaled down tremendously! Makeup is meant to enhance your features not change them. Excessive contouring can often end up looking like a drag queen. Use a bronzer just under the cheekbones for daytime and then shape the nose a bit for evening. Dark brown lines down the side of your nose and on your cheekbones don’t look good and you do not need to contour every single day!
2. White under eye highlighting
In continuation of excessive contouring another trend we saw a lot in 2014 is overly white under eye highlighting. An under eye highlight can be 1-2 shades lighter then your skin tone if you are going for an evening look but when it looks white or grey under the eyes you’ve gone too far. Try taking a picture of yourself after you have done your makeup as a check, the camera will tell you what the eyes cannot see.
3. Instagram eyebrows
Makeup transformations are really amazing! The most baffling are thin eyebrows made to appear full and thick. Over drawing your eyebrows for pictures that are then edited can work for a picture but in real life it looks way too much. It’s best to give some shape to your brows and fill in where needed while still maintaining a natural look. Try keeping the eyebrows natural where they begin and then darker toward the middle and end to avoid the harsh boxed eyebrow look. Take the challenge in 2015 to grow in over-plucked brows (promise not to touch them for one full year!).
4. Ombre hair
When ombre hair first came into trend, it was really cool. Now it’s not. It’s been in trend for a few years now and has been done way too many times! Because of the bleach used to create ombre hair, it makes the hair look brittle, dry and damaged. Can we please leave this trend in 2014 once and for all?
5. Over drawn lips
Before Kylie Jenner ever started over drawing her lips it was always a trend right here in the Middle East. It’s okay to slightly overdraw them to make them appear fuller but drawing lip liner around your lips on the skin does not look sexy. Try using a slightly darker shade of lip liner to line your lipstick to give the illusion of bigger lips. Ladies, keep it on the natural side: makeup is not plastic surgery!
6. Mile long lashes
False lashes were taken to the next level in 2014. Extra long and full lashes were in high demand where you needed extra special glue to keep them on! If your lashes touch your eyebrows when you blink, they are too obvious! False lashes are meant to blend in with your real lashes giving them a lifelike yet full look.
