No to communal politics

This is with reference to the report “Communal violence major rights problem for India: US” (June 28). It is high time that the Indians realized the fact that its diversity is its source of strength. India is a huge country with a diverse culture. Ideally, Indians should keep religion away from politics. That is the only way India could realize its true potential. Unfortunately, today the party that is in power does not believe in a secular India. It is up in arms against the secular credentials of the country. By their statements the semi-literate politicians of the ruling party are creating rifts among various communities.

People outside India are under the impression that parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its likes are the true representatives of the Hindus living in India. That is so wrong. Majority of Hindus are educated and secular by nature. We don’t want saffronization of our beloved country. We don’t subscribe to the views of the right-wing Hindu elements. Truth be told, they are the Hindu version of Taliban and if they continue to rule the country for some more time they might morph into the Hindu version of Daesh. — Varun Bhargav, By e-mail
