The public library inside the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah is a center of knowledge attracting a large number of students, researchers and pilgrims who want to enhance their knowledge on various Islamic topics.
The library was established in the Hijri year 886 (1481-1482) before the occurring of a fire that had gutted the mosque and destroyed a large number of Qur’an copies and valuable Islamic books.
The Saudi government ordered to reestablish the library in the Hijri year 1352 (1933-1934) on the recommendation of Obaid Madani, who was then director of endowments in Madinah.
It includes books donated by philanthropists as endowments including Sheikh Muhammad Al-Wazir, who donated his library to the mosque’s library in the Hijri year 1320 (1902-1903).
The library is located on the western side of the mosque’s terrace with its entrance near Gate No. 10. There is a big reading room with 300 chairs and a digital library inside the facility.
