Mobile phone thefts in Riyadh are on the increase. Snatchers appear to do their homework well before any operation as they know well where to strike and whom to pounce upon for pricey preys. They will never go for cheap stuffs. A bank executive, who was recently relieved of his expensive mobile phone in downtown Batha is now carrying one of the cheapest instruments available in the market.
The banker now has two mobile phones — a latest one for office use and an ordinary one for outside. Another businessman lost his extremely costly mobile phone recently, while he was jogging in a facility in Rawdah district. He is said to have given a good chase to the snatcher for about 200 meters but the man vanished after jumping into a waiting pick-up.
These people besides losing their expensive instruments, lose plenty of data. Hardly a day passes when we do not hear of such thefts in the city. Public carelessness also has contributed to such incidents. I urge upon the general public not to carry costly cell phones along while venturing into crowded areas or out on a stroll. In this regard, it is really safe to learn from the bank executive, who now carries a low cost mobile instrument. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
