Saudi Arabia yesterday denounced an anti-Bahrain statement made by an Iranian official and said the statement was an unacceptable interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
“These dangerous threats and political, religious and media provocations (against Bahrain) are rejected,” said a Foreign Ministry official in reference to the statement of Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hussain Amir Abdallahyan.
“These statements reflect Iran’s expansionist ambitions toward an Arab country which is a member of the United Nations, Arab League, Gulf Cooperation Council, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Non-Aligned Movement,” the Saudi official said.
The official warned that the Iranian move would have dangerous consequences on the region’s security and stability. “It will increase tension in the Gulf region,” he added.
On Saturday, Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al- Faisal also condemned Iran’s provocative statement, and urged Tehran to work for peace with its neighbors, instead of fanning flames.
Prince Saud was speaking at a joint press conference with Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
Prince Al Faisal urged Tehran to build solid relations with neighboring countries, instead of resorting to the language of threats. He warned that such threats would complicate things.
