Free Wi-Fi facilities will be available by the middle of this month along the beaches of Dammam and Alkhobar.
The Eastern Province municipality is working to transform Dammam and Alkhobar into smart cities as part of its development program in the region, said EP Mayor Fahd Aljubair recently.
“The broadband access across the two cities is part of an economic development strategy that will help people access the Internet easily,” he said.
Aljubair told Arab News that the municipality has set up 50 high-speed Internet access points along the two beaches.
Mobily telecommunications company will provide the service for this private and public initiative. Aljubair said the Wi-Fi service could be accessed by searching for Mobily Wi-Fi free service. Users have to provide their cell phone numbers with country codes and will then be sent the password to go online.
He said locals and visitors would appreciate the free Wi-Fi zones. “EP municipality is keen to expand such services to cover many more areas by the first quarter of next year,” said Aljubair.
