April 25: The Telegraph report by Anne Gulland states that Pakistan is the first country in the world to announce it will vaccinate children against typhoid as it battles with an outbreak of a highly drug-resistant form of the disease. The new vaccine will be incorporated into the routine childhood immunization schedule in response to an outbreak of typhoid, which is resistant to five different antibiotics.
