Glamping, also known as luxury or glamorous camping, is one of the fastest growing trends in tourism globally. There are numerous providers that offer accommodations in harmony with nature. However, an internationally recognized classification system has been missing to date, with the lack of clear rules and criteria causing confusion especially among end users.
As the first green country of the world certified according to the Green Destination standards, Slovenia’s credentials as a promoter of green and sustainable tourism runs deep. Slovenia was granted the prestigious National Geographic World Legacy Award in the category of Destination Leadership (ITB 2017) for its Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism and is recognized among the 10 most sustainable countries in the world, being also granted the title Best of Europe (ITS 2018).
The trademark “World of Glamping” is the world’s first initiative to implement segmentation and categorization of glamping providers worldwide, and thus contribute to the organization of this segment of tourism. Following an in-depth appraisal by the World of Glamping team of experts, two of Slovenia’s premier glamping establishments — Green Village Bled and Glamping Olimia Adria Village — have been awarded six- and five-star ratings, respectively.
World of Glamping classifies glamping into three segments: Scouting, glamping and lodging. Within each segment, one to seven stars are granted according to their offer and quality, with the aim of raising glamping to a higher level and to set the foundations for a better and more transparent future of glamping. The total number of all the criteria is 150, and they are distributed in six main categories based on the World of Glamping score — uniqueness, landscape architecture, sustainability policy, overall offer, individual accommodations and employees. World Glamping Awards are presented annually to the best properties that represent glamping excellence internationally.
The Slovenia Tourist Board recognizes that many avid travelers based in the Middle East’s Gulf countries are well accustomed to, and actively seek, environmentally-friendly glamping experiences. The Slovenia Tourist Board said that it hopes the recent accreditation by World of Glamping for two of its leading glamping properties will act as an effective impetus and platform to entice Middle East residents, whether honeymooners, couples or families, to experience Slovenia through its unique glamping experiences.
