JEDDAH: The General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection (PME) has completed its operational plan for this year’s Hajj season to provide the most accurate information to serve pilgrims.
The PME’s president, Khalil Al-Thaqafi, stressed its keenness to prepare early, in coordination with relevant authorities, to provide meteorological and environmental information via an integrated system.
PME forecasters “will carry out predictions of weather phenomena during the Hajj season,” he said.
The authority’s role is to measure the level of air pollutants in Makkah and the holy sites, and to check compliance by industrial establishments and facilities with environmental standards and requirements, he added.
The PME has also published an electronic guide for Hajj pilgrims with advice on weather and environmental conditions.
The guide is available in three languages — Arabic, English, and Urdu — so that the information is able to reach the vast majority of pilgrims.
