ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has donated medical equipment to Palestine to help it in coronavirus response, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Wednesday.
The Palestinian Health Ministry last week warned the epidemiological situation in Palestine was worsening, amid fears of a fourth wave of the pandemic.
A report published by the Medical Aid for Palestinians in July warned that the new wave, especially from the delta variant, would lead medical workers beyond the brink of total exhaustion.
In occupied Palestinian territory — the West Bank and East Jerusalem — health workers have suffered for decades from deteriorating infrastructure, limited access to specialized training and shortages of essential medicines and equipment.
In Gaza, health infrastructure is already fragile and was further damaged by Israeli airstrikes targeting health care facilities in May.
"To combat COVID19, Pakistan has gifted 10,000 Protective Suits, 100,000 Face Masks, 25 ICU Ventilators & 100 BiPAPs Ventilators to Palestine," NDMA said in a statement.
The equipment will be transported to Palestine by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society.
