CAIRO: Cairo International Airport’s customs authorities thwarted 10 attempts during the past week to smuggle high-end phones, medicines, and cosmetics.
Customs officials said all seizures were made in Terminal 3 during the past week and that legal measures were being taken.
An Egyptian passenger who arrived from Istanbul was arrested for possessing 107 strips of the narcotic drug Tramadol in various concentrations, totaling 1,070 tablets.
An Asian passenger arriving from Guangzhou was arrested while trying to smuggle out 24 iPhones concealed in cartons containing food.

An Egyptian passenger arriving from Nairobi was arrested for trying to smuggle 1,474 packages of medical supplies and spare parts.
Another Egyptian passenger arriving from Athens was held with 90 narcotic pills and three-bladed weapons. Officials said possessing these items is banned under Law No. 394 of 1954.
A further Egyptian passenger arriving from Sharjah was also arrested for trying to smuggle 112 mobile phone screens and an iPhone 15.
A passenger identified as African, who traveled from Athens, was stopped and found to be in possession of narcotic tablets, marijuana, a grinder, and a metal tool used in taking narcotic substances.
An Egyptian passenger arriving from Tokyo was arrested in possession of 109 strips of the narcotic drug Tramadol, totaling 1,090 tablets.
Another Egyptian passenger arriving from Paris was arrested in possession of 419 tablets of an illegal drug.
A further Egyptian passenger arriving from Dubai was arrested for trying to smuggle out 162 cosmetic packages, including surgical sutures and syringes.
And in addition, a final Egyptian passenger arriving from Johannesburg was arrested in possession of 81 Tramadol tablets and a bag containing seven wraps containing marijuana weighing 65 grams, and a cleaver.
