Kin receive compensation after death of students

RIYADH: The General Directorate of Education in Al-Jouf handed checks worth SR100,000 each as compensation to the families of two students who died after leaving their school premises.
“The two students, whose names were not mentioned, were studying at the Tabarjal Intermediate School in Al-Jouf region,” according to an online report. The cause of students’ death was not mentioned although the report said “it could have been a fatal accident.”
Fawaz Al-Salem, director general of education, said the amount involved is not really the equivalent of the two children’s life but that the families affected were entitled to it.
“The amounts involved were a symbolic gesture, so to speak, to assuage the grief of the families who lost loved ones,” the education director general said.
He noted that “the children who died could have made a good account of themselves in the future if given the chance to live longer, finish their studies and serve their country.”
Salman Al-Qaid, director of student services, said the amount involved was released by the Ministry of Finance.
Al-Qaid expressed sincere thanks to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, as well as the Cabinet’s decision to grant the amount to the aggrieved families.
He said the amount was released based on the decision of the Council of Ministers to grant SR100,000 each to the families.
He noted that compensation is granted if a student dies or suffers from a disability.
