Complete trust in yourself is something you must absolutely “get back”, in case you lost it, “acquire”, in case you have never had it, or “reinforce”, provided you have it but it is not strong enough. Without it, in fact, walking on your life’s path can be difficult or disappointing because – no matter what you try to carry out – you will always have the sensation that you haven’t been the maker of your success and, therefore, you might feel, at a deeper level, that you do not deserve it.
What you need is the awareness of how things really are and not how they seem to appear to you according to your character, personality or mood. Your usual attitude is the following: you tend to minimize any nuisance or difficulty you encounter throughout the day when you are in a good mood, while you do the opposite, i.e. you tend to exaggerate or complain about even the smallest inconvenience, when you are in bad mood.
How you perceive yourself, that is what you are and what you feel in a specific moment, paints the colors of the world you are living in at any given instant. Do you realize that it is your choice that makes your surroundings bright or gloomy? And can you also see that it is how you feel about “yourself” that leads you toward such a choice?
If you perceive yourself as a jealous person, you will most probably interpret any detail of your life under the light of your jealousy.
If you are too touchy, it is possible that any word addressed to you that is not flattering will be felt as a criticism. If you imagine that jealousy is painted in yellow and that over-sensitiveness in purple, you will end up living in a world that is metaphorically colored all in yellow in the first case and all in purple in the second. But it will be a false world because reality is made of many, different colors.
In order to be capable of seeing them all, you must therefore free yourself from the belief that a certain thing, person, occurrence is in such or such a way because “you” interpret it as you do. The hardest thing for human beings (you, I, everybody!) to accept is that any “thing” simply “is”.
If a friend of yours is kinder that you would like toward another person, it does not mean that he/she likes the other better than you and is planning to abandon you. If someone does not agree with your opinion does not mean that they despise you or do not consider you smart enough.
The range of feelings that are difficult to deal with are many, and they all cause distress and uneasiness in your life. “Envy” toward someone who seems to be luckier than you (although you are certain that you deserve success more than they do!) is one.
“Resentment” against those who did you wrong (while you may not know the real reasons for their behavior) is another. Then there is “fear” of something that might happen (most probably it is all in your mind, and what you are afraid of will never materialize, so you are just worrying for nothing).
Also harmful is the belief that people are out there to “attack” you and therefore you feel you must always be on the defensive, ready to resist any imagined verbal or emotional aggression.
All these feelings are negative and contribute to making your existence hard because they deprive you from joy, from serenity, from the feeling that – in spite of all – life is good. But Life “is” good and it is your decision, your “choice” to believe it that makes you able to have self-confidence, faith in yourself, in your capacity to create a more than simply acceptable existence. And do not forget that your attitude toward yourself has also a remarkable influence on the lives of your dear ones.
Therefore… Would you take a short time to recall and accordingly examine situations in your life that could be suggested by these reflections? If you do, you will be glad you did!
