Since its epic foundation 86 years ago, the Kingdom’s emergence into the country that it is today is nothing but a miraculous and astounding story. It is the story of a country that grew from the wilderness of vast deserts and scattered tribes fighting over limited resources into a modern nation that is acknowledged globally. This is the result of hard work and sacrifices made by everyone.
The National Day celebrations are continuing and everything is still wearing green. Flags are fluttering high on buildings and also deep in hearts. It is a good opportunity to keep this sense of patriotism ardent by a reminder that loving and celebrating the country goes beyond dancing to its national songs. We are all heavily indebted to this land. We carry the responsibility of making sure that its future is brighter than its past.
If you are a parent, make sure you bring up your kids appreciative to their country, loving it and looking forward to making a difference in its future. Bring them up with an open mind to their surroundings. Bring them up ready to learn something new, to do something different. Make sure you give your children the tools to grow as responsible human beings toward their country and toward the world.
If you are a teacher, then on your table, we bet our future. What you have is not a job, it is a mission. Not a mere responsibility but a sacred duty. Never think that your job stops at making sure your students know how to add, solve multivariable equations, draw a carbon atom or iterate the history of the Abbasid Caliphate. Actually, your job begins at teaching your students how to dream, how to break through restraints and dogmas, how to think and analyze and make decisions, how to be agile and take responsibility for their actions.
If you are an employee, in the public or private sector, get the sense that through your daily work combined with those around you, the stature of your country is built and defined. No matter how small you think your role is, it constitutes a defining part of the bigger picture. Be honest and productive. Pay attention to the details. Be imaginative and creative. Be fair and just while using the power entrusted to you. Embrace change and look forward to it, as through change nations grow better and stronger. Break out of your narrow and small interests and look into the impacts of your actions on a larger scale.
The list goes on. No matter where you are, there is something you can provide to your country, a difference you can make. After all, a country’s growth is the result of the efforts spent by its people. Love and songs are only part of the equation, the affecting variables are beliefs and hard work.
With a world changing at a rapid pace, with a region boiling with differences and a legacy of piling problems, we are in defining moment in history to complete writing the miraculous story of this country. We have the potential to grow bigger, to be better; we only need to work harder.
