A terror-free society
Terrorist acts over the past years centered on security checkpoints, public gatherings, places where foreigners gather and even mosques.
Now, the menace has targeted families too. A man killed his cousin; another killed his uncle’s son; and, in a gruesome incident, twin brothers killed their mother deliberately and treacherously.
The Daesh group has indeed penetrated into families, taking advantage of several factors like the parents’ uncaring attitude toward children; their remaining incurious about their children being glued to computers or smart devices for hours. This has allowed Daesh enough room to attract unsuspecting teenagers through games ending with programming and control over minds, notably those with weak personality, or suffering from social marginalization and cruelty of families and community. These are Daesh’s soft target as ignored by family and the society, such children began nursing hatred and a sense of hostility in their hearts toward their community.
These youngsters are the product and the reflection of a mal-education and persistent discriminations that as a result made them feel marginalized. As a consequence a belief in extremist thought gets seeped into their mind.
The more a family is weak in controlling its offspring, the greater are the chances of Daesh exploiting them for their sinister operations.
There are many solutions to redress this problem, both at state and family level. While the government agencies can bring about programs capable of countering Daesh plans, the families can replace the old system of imparting education to them with new ones based on a system making them have a sense of belongingness in family as well as society that provides enough rooms for caring, love and managing their daily affairs, as also bringing them under constant watch taking note of their engagement with computers, etc.

Joining hands against Daesh
Saudi Arabia has acquired enough experience in tackling terrorism, gaining global recognition for its pre-emptive strikes against active and sleeper terrorist cells.
It has accumulated skills to root out terror attacks that take different forms to undermine our national security and destabilize social peace.
The latest terrorist attacks have mostly targeted the closest relatives by teenagers, which has triggered panic in several families.
Today, we are required to help our security men, who are the first defense line in fight against this dangerous scourge.
In our opinion, the security authorities can have the following three ways to address the problem:
First, getting the community immunized from deviant ideologies by using our cultural and educational institutions, media, mosques and literary clubs that could ward off any deviant thoughts that may negatively affect our unity and patriotism. There is also a need of an ideological security, which means spreading a climate of disciplined freedom and respect of others because a deviant ideology is redressed through intellectual diversity and not obscurantism.
Second, media should be transparent being allowed to expose identity of the wanted people, as also allowing experts to shed more light on the deviant thoughts.
Third, and last, undertaking field studies on reasons leading to terrorism and how the deviant ideology has dominated minds of some of our youths. Here it makes the role of universities very important.

KSA to remain safe homeland
Saudi Arabia, or its people, never gloated over others’ affairs, good or bad; nor it ever intended to create dissensions in any country.
The Kingdom is home to the Two Holy Mosques, which more than two billion Muslims in the world turn to, in their daily prayers.
Since its unification by the founder King Abdul Aziz, the Kingdom has placed Muslim interests on top of its priority, notably the Two Holy Mosques where it spent billions of riyals for their expansion and development.
Besides, the Kingdom has supported Muslims in several countries for their well being and, thanks to its wise leadership, played an important role in achieving stability and peace in the world by fighting terror and extremist groups.
It donated $100m for the establishment of the UN Center for Counter Terrorism (UNCCT) and provided billions of riyals in the form of foreign assistance. However, this dignified stand and position on the global level has made its enemies spewing more hatred against it. This will not deter the nation remaining a destination of Muslims, guardian of the Two Holy Mosques and provider of humanitarian aids.
Although some of its youths were led astray through misguidance by its enemies, things in the Kingdom will always remain under control because it has faithful sons who have offered themselves to protect its gains from the hatred and plots of enemies. In the last few years, the Kingdom faced painful incidents, especially during the holy month of Ramadan where it experienced suicidal killings adopted by followers of deviant Daesh thought.
The Kingdom has deputed a large number of security men to protect the holy sites and to ensure that the pilgrims perform their worship at the Two Holy Mosques in peace.
Saudi Arabia will always remain proud to serve pilgrims despite sinister plans by enemies of peace.

Terrorist groups still active
Ten terrorist operations hit six Islamic countries in the last five days of the holy month of Ramadan that carried imprints of the Daesh terrorist group.
The operations targeted Malaysia, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia (three operations), Turkey and Iraq while three terrorist attempts were thwarted in Kuwait.
These operations are sending a series of messages, which could not be distracted from what is happening in Syria and Iraq.
The Daesh terrorist group has received two painful setbacks, the first in Iraq where it (Daesh) was defeated in Fallujah battle in the hands of the Iraqi Army, despite controversy over excesses against civilians, in preparation for Al-Mosul battle, the stronghold of the terrorist group.
The second setback for the Daesh group came in the besieged Manbaj city, northern Syria, which acted as the main logistics supplier for the group. If cut, it would lead to slow death of the group due to blockade of a Syrian Kurdish group, on the one hand, and US logistics support, on the other.
The terrorist operations have, meanwhile, indicated that their ability to recruit misguided elements is still possible.The operations also indicated that elements of Daesh group or those adopting its thoughts in these countries are still taking directions or orders to carry out operations, though they seem to be random or un-planned.
The Daesh terrorist group would like to send a message to say it was still controlling and working to distract attention from its presence in Iraq and Syria by shifting operations outside these two countries.
At the ideological front, however, the group is beginning to fall apart and expose itself, notably following the Prophet’s Mosque incident, which proved its deviant approach by attacking the holiest Islamic site.

Mess at Riyadh, Jeddah airports
What happened at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah in the last days of Ramadan was not a new thing. Rather, it has been a repeat story, every year.
It is commonplace to see the pile up of luggage, crowded passengers and fight delays at the two airports in each season.
This raises a question as to where are the plans and preparations to meet such situations? It is well known that the Haj and Umrah pilgrimage that involves intensive traveling by pilgrims are well known seasons and are occasions for better preparedness. This is important to avoid any potential irks and mess.
However, insubstantial justifications given by some of the concerned departments are nothing but an escape from responsibilities. It shows their lack of understanding of the volume of work during such times.
The Ministry of Interior has set wonderful examples on how to deal with crisis during these seasons professionally and technically where everybody in the Kingdom and outside has appreciated excellent services.
Why then other ministries are not benefiting from the experiences of the Ministry of Interior whereby we could put an end to any negative performance?

Scouts’ leading role
At the Grand Mosque in Makkah, we have seen Saudi Arabian Scout Society (SASS) playing an outstanding role in the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan.
Some 1,000 scouts organized movement of the visitors and Umrah pilgrims during Ramadan at the Grand Mosque alone.
The SASS members worked jointly with members of the Grand Mosque Security Forces, employees of the Ministries of Commerce and Investment, Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, and Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs to make huge movement during the Ramadan highly smooth and incident-free. They also did an excellent job at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah during the same period.
The scouts guided hundreds of thousands of visitors and Umrah pilgrims, returned some 90 lost children back to their relatives and transported more than 45,000 visitors and Umrah pilgrims of advanced age as also the physically-impaired persons by using strollers and golf carts.
In addition, the SASS members received and saw off pilgrims and visitors through more than 30 international and domestic flights at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, distributed more than 50,000 iftar meals and cooperated with Madinah Traffic Police in organizing traffic to/from the Prophet’s Mosque.
Their services deserve appreciation and which remains a proud example for the country that used the potentials of its youths in best possible manner to serve the Two Holy Mosques. We are also proud of those who were supportive to the youths, including the regional governorates and the Ministry of Education.
