Once upon a time there was a country called “Currenciesland.” Its inhabitants were happy. Its supreme king was called “Gold.” Each member in Currenciesland used to go every morning before the king to be weighed himself. The king and the rest of the inhabitants would give him his exact weight in gold, not less, not more. This was the ultimate justice. It is true that the king would sometimes, due to circumstances and change in supply and demand make some changes moving a little to the right or the left but even in that he used to take all his followers along and administered justice — the ultimate justice. Justice does not only mean happiness, it means contentment and satisfaction to all.
In view of different natural dispositions, and in light of what you read in voluminous books of history, chaos starts when individual dominance surfaces. Due to some circumstances, the “King Gold” lost his power, but, strange enough, he didn’t lose his gravity, due to the fact that one of his followers became known in the land as Dollar, (people in Currenciesland do not use the title “Master,” but they use “currency”).
His power and dominance spread out as fast as fire in dry stalks. It seemed clearly that he started to turn his back to King Gold, belittle and disgraces him, to the point that he began to allow his followers to cover their naked bodies with its weight or whatever equivalent to it of other bonds and stocks of which he promised that he will give them, one day, its interest. I think that what the historians of Currenciesland wrote down was the greatest trap that debased Currenciesland’s system. Moreover, some pessimistic writers wrote: “The dependency of the monetary system on the stocks of the American Treasury and barter based on the Dollar as the main criterion will be the symptom of the collapse of the whole monetary system including the Dollar itself.”
What matters is what took place in Currenciesland afterward. The currency Dollar gained unlimited power, and announced before the King Gold and all followers that “he” will not go and weigh himself everyday before the king, and set himself free, and was about to say to everybody: “It is you who must weigh yourselves before me.” Some narrators who entertain history recording authority said that the Dollar said the same thing to the king himself.
In my views, real kings remain kings regardless of whatever the rebels did. Kingship cannot be stripped away. It is granted from above, and certainly the king was granted it from a sublime place.
The currency “Riyal” was one of Currenciesland’s inhabitants, and “he” suffered before the Dollar what other currencies suffered, as he linked himself or has been coercively linked to the Dollar in its ups and downs.
Is this the end of the story?
No… but it reached our pockets, and it is no longer just a story; it frankly became the living reality of sufferance. I would like to spell out before you what I understand, and let those who know better correct me. I am now in a far away country, and I know that I and a number of Saudis with me counted what we had of their currency after exchanging our money, and were shocked because we lost in a minute more than 30 percent of the amount we exchanged last time in the same country. Hands began to clasp, and each of us will need a calculator to reshuffle his programs and commitments.
We must know that this is not due to the Riyal per se, but it is the output of linking our Riyal to the Dollar, as if the Dollar is falling down and we support it with our own money.
Is this the only loss we suffered? I would like to draw the attention of those who think that this seen percentage is the only loss we suffered in our individual wealth. No, as I understand, we lose another unseen percentage as well, but I will tell you about that in the next article.
Until then, I want you to promise me that you will keep your money in a safe place, so that the “bullies” may not steal them.
