The Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh has said that Saudi Arabia’s technical assistance of $35 million to the three African countries hit by Ebola is of great help in ending the epidemic.

“The situation is stabilizing in Sierra Leone, the West African country worst hit by the disease, although 250 new cases were confirmed there last week,” Al Haji M.B. Jalloh, information attache at the embassy, told Arab News.

The other two countries hit by Ebola include Liberia and Guinea.

Jalloh attributed the Ebola situation stabilizing in his country to the political will of Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma. “In addition, the Sierra Leoneans have also abided by the government advisories and guidelines to avoid contracting the disease or minimizing its effect,” Jalloh told Arab News.

Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a report saying that “there are signs that the incidence of Ebola has leveled off in Sierra Leone, although transmission remains intense in the West African country.”

There have been 20,747 cases since the disease broke out early last year and 8,235 people have died so far, according to WHO. Sierra Leone has seen the highest number of cases at 978, with almost 3,000 reported deaths.
