Pakistani television experts are looking for new ways to attract people and revive the country’s entertainment industry.

Recently, a new trend of turning television serials into live stage plays has taken audiences by storm and entertainment gurus say it is sure to make drama lovers return to the small screen.

Only last week, the all time famous Pakistan Television’s drama serial “Angan Terha” drew rave reviews when it was performed on stage in Islamabad.

The drama was originally written in the mid-1980s by renowned writer and producer Anwar Maqsood.

The theatrical version of “Angan Terha” was performed at a local auditorium in front of a large crowd of drama lovers.

Experts believe that acting on stage is challenging because it is very hard to have live audiences watch every movement you make. Consequently, stage acting is far more difficult and complex than a production on television.

The original version of “Angan Terha” comprises various plots, focusing on complex social issues, which Anwar Maqsood has blended with his characteristic humor and sarcasm, creating a work of fiction in the process.

Enthusiasts lauded the performance of the theatrical team. Khalifa Sirajuddin was especially appreciated for playing one of the main characters in the play.

Bushra Ansari, a big name of the Pakistan television industry and who was also part of the original series, attended the event. She was very impressed by the performance.

Earlier, Anwar Maqsood had come up on stage to express his good wishes to the group. Commenting on the large turnout of spectators, he said it signaled the “glorious” future of the Pakistan entertainment industry.

Mohammed Abdullah, a student, said he appreciated the creative approach of making theatrical versions of dramas originally produced for the television screen.

He said that following the new trend, it would be a good idea to have all the famous long and short teleplays be performed on stage in different parts of the country.

Shafqat Ali, another viewer, nostalgically said the stage-show, “Angan Terha” reminded him of earlier days when he and his family, used to watch the television serial together.
