APSCO sponsored King Abdulaziz University’s (KAU) World Down Syndrome Day event.
Ahmed Elramly, APSCO’s marketing manager, said: “APSCO's sponsorship of this event comes within the general framework of its CSR programs, as well as to exercise its role in the welfare and prosperity of the community as a major national company.
He noted that such events reflect cooperation and brotherhood spirit in the community and emphasize its harmony.
The campaign, which was associated with the event, aimed to achieve various social and scientific goals. The campaign ran for 3 days and had several functions, including awareness lectures aiming at educating the community about the disease, and how the community sees it.
Various edutainment contests for children with Down syndrome, including paintings, face painting and photographing in a special studio were held for the event, and the photos distributed to the children.
The children with Down syndrome were given an opportunity to play at Arab mall amusement park for free.
Presenting successful models of children with Down syndrome and interviewing their mothers to talk about their experiences with their children were also among the activities.
Brochures and leaflets were distributed among the attendees to educate them on Down syndrome.
Consultants specialized in children's ear, nose, throat and heart diseases as well as dentists were enlisted for assistance, as also social and psychological consultants to advice parents of children with Down syndrome on how to deal with their children.
The scientific research side took a major part in this campaign where the organizers distributed questionnaires to the public to measure health awareness about Down syndrome in the Saudi community.
The doctors filled out questionnaires regarding problems related to children with Down syndrome, and checked them, as well as measuring the extent families' health awareness of the possible health complications connected with Down syndrome.
