Batterjee Medical College for Science and Technology (BMC) represented by student affairs department launched an awareness campaign — Your nutrition is the key to your health. The campaign took place at various malls in Jeddah with the cooperation of several nutrition experts.
The campaign accompanied numerous awareness corners that covered all aspects of nutrition such as the nutrition pyramid, nutrition of children, elderly nutrition, and nutrition of diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol patients, as well as Islam and Sunna eating habits.
Awareness brochures that covered the importance of eating healthy and how to maintain a proper diet for all age groups in the society were distributed among the visitors.
Dr. Hawazin Mutawie, vice dean of BMC’s female section, said the goal of this campaign is to enhance people's nutrition and improve their eating habits by spreading awareness of the foods that cause obesity and the numerous diseases that are linked with diets of high calories.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Tayeb, BMC's vice dean of student affairs, said that it was medically proven, which eliminates all doubts, that there is a strong relationship between the rates of chronic diseases, diet and physical exercise. Chronic diseases, nowadays, represent 60 percent of the overall diseases in the world, according to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO). He also stressed the importance of following a healthy diet and avoiding harmful foods.
Dr. Hassan Shaibah, BMC dean, said BMC has always been keen on participating in such initiatives that shed light on current medical and educational issues, which aim to serve the community and contribute in the wellbeing of the country.
