RIYADH/JEDDAH: The Indian community in the Kingdom donned patriotic colors on Thursday morning as they gathered at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Indian Consualte in Jeddah to celebrate the 68th Republic Day.
Indian Ambassador Ahmad Javed hoisted the national flag in Riyadh. Indian Consul General Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh unfurled the tricolor in Jeddah.
Patriotic songs presented by Indian school students touched the sentimental chords of those present at the annual celebration and filled the air with patriotic fervor and pride for the homeland.
The Indian ambassador and the consul general read out President Pranab Mukherjee’s message highlighting Indian pluralism as the greatest strength.
“The Kingdom is an important part of our extended neighborhood. The people of Indian sub-continent and Arabian Peninsula have been interacting with each other through trade and commerce dating back to several millennia, fulfilling each others necessities and requirements,” said the ambassador. “The commonalities, inter alia, in our culture and tradition bear testimony to this historic relationship.”
