The National Commission for Facilities discussed ways to improve airport operations across the Kingdom at a meeting at its headquarters in Riyadh.
The meeting was in line with the efforts of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), which has been making efforts to implement the specifications and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Commission (ICAO) with regards to the air transport facilities.
The commission aims to adopt the procedures and measures that will lead to a streamlined movement at airports and by the same token put in place all that would speed up and facilitate travel and reduce the procedural time it takes for the traveler before boarding an aircraft.
At a meeting chaired by Capt. Abdul Hakim Al-Bader, assistant to the GACA president for safety, security and transport, and attended by representatives from various ministries and government agencies, discussions took place on topics related to improving the work system at airports and the development of techniques used to speed up the security measures and clearance of goods, and review the application of recommended systems such as (MRTD) and the system of advance passenger information (API).
Participants confirmed that the combination of efforts by agencies working at airports and continuous coordination and cooperation among them is an important factor in the management of the airport’s ability to achieve its goals in the highest level of operational readiness and to raise the security levels, safety and the smooth flow of passenger traffic and goods easily and conveniently.
The commission was set up by a ministerial decree and its members include the Directorate General of Passports, Customs Authority, the General Authority of Tourism and National Heritage, the General Authority of Investment, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, the Royal Saudi Air Force, Saudi post and Saudi Arabian Airlines.
