A Shoura Council delegation from its transport, communication and IT committee visited the new Terminal 5 at King Khaled International Airport (KKIA) allocated for domestic travel. Terminal 5 began partial operations on May 22.
Bassem Alsalom, assistant to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) president for corporate communication and marketing, Abdullah Alkuraif, general manager of public relations and media, and Terminal 5 Project Manager Abduellah Alfawzan received the delegation.
The delegation’s visit was part of Shoura Council’s planned field trips, which GACA organizes to government agencies to new airports and ongoing projects in order to brief officials on the workflow and to early coordinate the needs of the various sectors in preparation for it to become fully operational.
Alfawzan gave a presentation to the visiting team on the latest technology and systems used at the terminal to provide all the comfort for the traveling public and providing services to the highest international quality.
The delegation discussed the importance of the new terminal in promoting the economic boom in the Kingdom as a whole and in Riyadh in particular.
Also, the partial operation of the terminal figured in the discussion. The new terminal, which commenced a specified number of domestic destinations, will extend gradually to other destinations until the terminal becomes fully operational.
At the current stage, there are five domestic destinations — Sharora, Alwajeh, Turaif, Quraiat and Alhafof — and will gradually increase the terminal’s operations until full transfer of all domestic travel to Terminal 5.
The delegation included Major General Nasser Alotabi, the committee chairman, Fardous Alsaleh, Jibril Alarishi, Hamid Sharari, and Abdullah Alngidi.
