As the online food startup industry is slowly catching up in Saudi Arabia, Ibrahim Bamehriz, an entrepreneur, established the “Breakfast Club”, an inventive breakfast delivery service offering high quality breakfast food and products that aim to carve a lucrative niche by shaking up the casual food delivery industry.

Besides being born and raised in Jeddah, Ibrahim Bamehriz worked abroad in Lebanon, the US and London for over 10 years as a marketing professional in varying industries.

Coming from a solid marketing background, he started and led multiple businesses at the same time. Arab News had an exclusive talk with Bamehriz on his journey so far, and his experience in the food industry.

What is Breakfast Club and how was it founded?

It is a breakfast delivery service that aims to provide high quality breakfast with a twist while encouraging people to have a new breakfast experience that is unique and fun, all packed in a box. It is ideal for those working, always on the move, families and even those who just want the day off and try something new.

As a result of living in different parts of the world for over 10 years, I was exposed to many cultures and cuisines, which inspired me to start my own restaurant someday. As time passed by, I got to a point where the idea was shaped and breakfast club was launched. The idea was not to be like any other typical restaurant.

I am a big believer in innovation and was determined to start something fresh and new, yet provide value and a solution to the people here, so I did some market research and consulted a few international agencies and started working on the concept, until I came up with it last year.

Since you run a unique business, what are the challenges?

As many people know, the food industry is one of the hardest to be in because it is such a sensitive one in terms of quality, food safety and time. We have a commercial kitchen for our operation, as our concept is solely based on delivering the food to customers, so we do not have an actual restaurant where you can eat in, which is part of its uniqueness and allure.

Moreover, there are so many challenges, especially in the beginning, from hiring talented staff to having an efficient delivery operation. It took us some time to improve our service from the time we first launched till today and it is always a work in progress you never stop, the day you stop improving is the day the business dies.

Who are the chefs?

We were able to hire an amazing local head chef who’s been with us from day one and we have two other assistant cooks and one packaging specialist. We focus on freshly preparing the food every single day using only high quality ingredients, which is what makes us different as well as what makes our food taste delicious.

What kind of menu does Breakfast Club offer?

Breakfast Club offers three types of breakfast boxes: Traveler breakfast box, which is European/American, Local breakfast box, which includes Middle Eastern cuisine and Continental breakfast box, which offers a typical 5 star hotel breakfast.

Every box serves up to three people, which encourages people to get together over breakfast. These boxes come in a courier package giving you the literal feeling that you have just received something from another country. We also introduced our “create your own breakfast menu” last year in order to give people the flexibility to design their own breakfast as they please. Our boxes are perfect for many occasions such as at home, friends and family gatherings, and corporate events or one can send it as a gift.

In addition to this, we also sell all of our freshly crafted and selected jams, nut butter, gourmet coffee and tea.

Under the slogan “Enjoy a good day’s start”, the Breakfast Club experience is all about relishing your meal.

What are the breakfast delivery timings?

One can order from us anytime on the same day from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. or you can pre-order a day before for large groups of people.

How successful is the business?

The business is quite successful as it has become profitable after a lot of hard work. It took some time to build awareness and converse the concept in a way that adds value to people’s lives.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

My advice for them would be that they should start today by taking small steps, you cannot wait for the perfect time or try to make things perfect until you implement your idea, because facing challenges and obstacles is inevitable, you can never overlook them instead you get better at dealing with them with experience and time.
