It is good news for the cricket fans especially for the Indian cricket lovers that the former Indian cricket captain and star spin bowler Anil Kumble has been appointed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council’s cricket committee. According to news reports Kumble replaces former West Indies captain and international match referee Clive Lloyd as chairman. As a leg-spinner, Kumble took 619 wickets in Test matches and 337 wickets in One-Day Internationals during his playing career. It is also important to mention here that he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the India’s top civilian honor by the government of India in 2005, and he is the only Indian cricketer in the history of cricket to have taken all 10 wickets in a test innings. We hope that he will face various challenges but would face them successfully as he is a capable and talented person. In a recent statement he said that he would bring fresh and modern ideas to help take the game forward at the global level, besides meeting the various challenges it faces currently. Let us hope that the ICC would benefit from his experience and capabilities and move towards positive development. Our appreciation and congratulations to the ICC for appointing the right person in this top and prestigious position. — Zakaria Sultan, Riyadh
