The Saudi Falcons champion and Red Bull athlete, Abdul Aziz Turki Al Faisal, recorded a respectable achievement putting his BMW Z4 in third place at the 24 Hours Nurburgring driving alongside his friend Sheikh Jaber Khalifa with Extreme Racing Team.
The participation of Al Faisal in the endurance racing event on the Nordschleife (north loop) of the Nürburgring in central Germany forms part of his preparation for the Le Mans 24 Hours race to be held next month.
Al Faisal was first to start from the Extreme Racing Team and made his way between the international drivers to front positions.
The team was so excited and started to aim for the category win.
The red flag was raised due to dramatic weather conditions and the race was stopped for more than 9 hours. After the restart on the next day, Al Faisal finished the race third.
Before the mandatory stop, the Saudi Falcons champion was holding the second position but some mechanical nightmares chased the team, and a gear box problem made the mission much more difficult.
These technical issues prevented the team from making more progress, so the main objective was defending the third position and finishing the race.
Al Faisal said the race: “At the beginning of the race, our main goal was to gain new experiences and to practice for the next challenge. My personal goal was to prepare myself for the 24H of Le Mans that will be held next June. I thank God for achieving all the goals we set in mind, especially that we faced some difficult weather conditions, and the race stopped for more than 9 hours. Our greatest achievement was finishing in third place of our category (V5), so I have added a new victory to my records.
I have learned a lot from this experience; adapting to difficult race conditions, changing the team’s strategy in order to score a win, benefiting from each minute while staying in good physical and mental condition. I thank God again for honoring my country and I hope that we will achieve better results in our next races.”
