Doctors at King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Jeddah have saved the hand of a young Saudi man after it was severed recently in a traffic accident. They succeeded in returning his hand to its original position and the man has left hospital.
Dr. Ahmed Rahim Bakhsh, head of the medical team for cosmetic surgery at the hospital, said the surgery to fix the hand was complicated, as the accident caused both veins and bones to be severed.
“We conducted the surgery to relocate the hand and saved it from amputation by reattaching bones and veins,” Bakhsh explained. The patient’s condition is said to be stable and he is undergoing physiotherapy, he added.
