RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil’s Bar Association is criticizing President Jair Bolsonaro over a twitter attack on a critical journalist for one of the country’s largest newspapers.
Bolsonaro sent a tweet Sunday saying that Constanca Rezende of the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo had been recorded saying says she wants to ruin the life of Bolsonaro’s son, Flavio, and impeach Bolsonaro. Rezende has reported on a corruption scandal involving alleged irregular payments to Flavio Bolsonaro.
In the audio, Rezende says in English, “This case can ruin Bolsonaro ... I think it’s an impeachment case.”
Bolsonaro accused journalists of wanting “to topple the government with blackmail, disinformation and leaks.”
