ISLAMABAD — Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider said on Thursday that by the end of the month the government would launch an operation to flush out illegal weapons. Speaking at a seminar on “Pakistan’s Policy to Manage Extremism and Terrorism” organized by Foreign Service Academy, he said, all assault weapons would be banned and people possessing weapons in tribal areas had been asked to surrender such weapons. People in the Mohmand Agency had surrendered a large quantity of ammunition voluntarily, he said. He said a law had been prepared and would be presented before the Cabinet for approval. The minister said a just solution of the Kashmir and Afghan issues could stem extremism and terrorism in the region.
