This is with reference to the article “Revolutionizing education sector” (Aug. 30) by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed. Education is the key to progress. It is necessary for the Kingdom to take effective measures to improve the standard of education. There is a great need to modernize the curricula and teaching methods. The teaching methods and curricula in the Kingdom, and for that matter in most of the Muslim world, are not in line with today’s requirements. We need to move from the culture of rote learning. Saudi Arabia’s youth are very tech-savvy, so the new online tools should be used to teach them with a particular focus on the development of their analytical skills. We also need to encourage students to study those subjects, which interest them the most. —
